Pitrufquén is a municipality in Cautín Province, located inland south of Temuco in the Araucanía region. The settlement consists of an urban core with surrounding rural lands that make up the administrative territory.
The settlement started as Lisperguer, named after a French engineer, before becoming known by its current name. European immigrants arrived in the late 1800s and played a key role in establishing it as a municipal center.
