Memorial 27F, Concepción

Memorial 27F comprises eight hexagonal towers, each standing about 23 meters high and constructed from reinforced concrete clad in Cobquecura stone. The structure is integrated into Costanera Park and includes five distinct plaza spaces with pathways and educational areas.

The memorial was erected following the earthquake and tsunami that devastated southern Chile on February 27, 2010. This event claimed hundreds of lives and transformed how the country approached seismic resilience and urban planning.

The memorial displays engraved victim names and survivor accounts on its surfaces. A poem by Violeta Parra about natural disasters is incorporated into the structure, creating a space of remembrance.

The memorial sits along Avenida Costanera and is accessible via the urban pathways next to the riverside. Allow time to walk through all five plazas and read the informational panels throughout the site.

One of the towers features a suspended wooden base that demonstrates structural movement during earthquakes. This design helps visitors understand the constant seismic forces that shape the region.
