Torre City, Office building in Concepción, Chile

Torre City is a 24-storey office tower in Concepción, completed in 2009 to surpass the Edificio Amanecer as the tallest building in the Biobío Region. Its glass curtain wall rises above the city centre, and the building houses multiple companies served by central elevator systems.

Torre City was built to surpass the Edificio Amanecer, until then the tallest building in the Biobío Region and Gran Concepción. It was inaugurated in 2009, not 2008. A year later, in 2010, it was overtaken by the Torre O'Higgins, which was destroyed by the February 2010 earthquake. In 2013 the Torre del Centro, 95 metres tall with 22 floors and 4 basements, surpassed it.

The building represents the evolution of corporate architecture in Chile, introducing contemporary design elements that transformed the traditional business district of Concepción.

Torre City stands at the intersection of Avenida O'Higgins and Calle San Martín in central Concepción, a few blocks from Plaza de la Independencia. The tower is a private office building, so visitors normally enter only the ground-floor lobby; upper floors require a tenant appointment. The 24 floors are served by a bank of lifts, and the ground floor is step-free from the street.

Torre City was built specifically to surpass the Edificio Amanecer, then the tallest building in the Biobío Region and Gran Concepción. It held the city's height record only briefly: in 2010 the Torre O'Higgins overtook it, and that tower was destroyed by the February 2010 earthquake. Since 2013 the 95-metre Torre del Centro has stood taller.
