Rengo, Agricultural commune in Cachapoal Province, Chile.

Rengo is a city in Cachapoal Province in the O'Higgins Region, situated at about 570 meters elevation. It spreads across agricultural land and vineyards in the Central Valley south of Santiago.

A Spanish settler named Tomás Marín González de Poveda founded this settlement in 1695 and named it after Toqui Rengo, a regional leader. The name honored this figure from the area's earlier conflicts.

Wine growing has shaped life here for generations, and you can see vineyards dotting the surrounding valleys. The trade remains central to how the community identifies itself and organizes its calendar around harvest seasons.

The city sits easily along main roads south of Santiago and provides basic services for travelers. The municipal office near the city center can offer information about local activities and amenities.

The settlement was originally laid out as a military outpost during Spain's control of the region. This strategic past is little known today, though it shaped how the early town was organized.
