Liceo Cervantes, Public secondary school in Santiago, Chile

Liceo Cervantes is a secondary school in Santiago with modern facilities located at Calle Vergara near the Toesca metro station. The institution serves students from primary through secondary grades, with classes running in morning and afternoon shifts to accommodate enrollment.

The school was established in 1933 as Academia de Estudios Excelsior N°2 and received official recognition from the Ministry of Education. This founding coincided with an expansion of educational institutions across Santiago during the early 20th century.

The school is named after Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra, the author of Don Quixote, and its official designation since 1991 is Liceo A-18 Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra. Its former building stood between Calle Agustinas and Calle García Reyes, near the Cumming metro station, until the move to Calle Vergara 325 in Barrio República in 2021.

The school is located in a central area easily accessible by public transportation, especially via the Toesca metro station nearby. Keep in mind this is an active educational facility, so access and visits are normally restricted to students and staff.

The school's 2004 turnaround was backed by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Fundación Emmanuel of the Catholic Church, which helped set up a new governing structure with teachers, students, assistants, parents and guardians on the School Council. Its alumni include footballer Jorge Valdivia, actor Daniel Alcaíno and Contralora General Dorothy Pérez.
