Teatro Carrera

Teatro Carrera is a four-story concrete building in central Santiago with three facades decorated in classical tile mosaics. The structure features curved interior seating designed to hold up to 1500 people in its original cinema configuration.

Built in 1926 on the former grounds of Concha-Cazotte Palace, the theater opened in 1927 with a film premiere. Its establishment marked an important moment in Chile's adoption of modern cinema technology.

The venue shaped Santiago's entertainment culture by bringing sound cinema technology to Chilean audiences and providing a social gathering place for thousands of residents. Its role in introducing advanced film experiences made it a significant destination for local cultural life.

The building sits on Avenida Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins between Maturana and Concha y Toro streets, making it straightforward to locate on foot. Note that the space now operates as a restaurant rather than a cinema, which affects how you can access and view the interior.

Artist Aristodemo Lattanzi created intricate tile mosaics that adorn all three building facades, preserving decorative craftsmanship from the original construction period. These ornamental features remain visually distinctive along the city street today.
