Remodelación República, Residential complex in Santiago Centro, Chile
Remodelación República is a residential complex in Santiago Centro with two overlapping residential blocks containing 282 apartments total. At the intersection of Avenida República and Blanco Encalada, the blocks connect through commercial spaces at street level and a semi-sunken commercial area accessed via a central courtyard.
The complex was completed in 1968 as the first residential project to benefit from Santiago's urban renewal subsidy program. This marked the start of systematic renovation efforts in the historic district and demonstrated new possibilities for city development.
The design received an Honor Distinction from the College of Architects of Chile in 1969 for its innovative approach to residential living. The four architects who created it helped establish new standards for how people lived together in the city center.
The complex includes underground parking and elevators throughout the building for ease of movement. The layout spans multiple levels, so it helps to understand the basic structure before exploring the site.
Each residential block contains triplex apartments with dual orientation that provide diverse views and ventilation throughout. This arrangement minimizes shared common areas while maximizing comfort for individual residents.
