Chumbivilcas Province

The province spans across 5,371 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with altitudes ranging between 2,000 and 4,000 meters above sea level.

The province received its official designation on June 21, 1825, through a decree issued by Simon Bolivar during Peru's independence period.

The Qorilazo horsemen of Chumbivilcas maintain traditional equestrian skills, demonstrating their expertise with lasso techniques and animal handling.

Reaching Santo Tomas, the provincial capital, requires a 209-kilometer journey from Cusco city, with regular bus services operating daily.

The Takanakuy festival features ritualized fistfights between community members as a method of conflict resolution and social bonding.
