Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, Protected rainforest in Puno and Madre de Dios regions, Peru.

Bahuaja Sonene National Park encompasses 1,091,416 hectares of river terraces, hills, and mountains with elevations from 500 to 2450 meters.

The national park, established in 1996, connects with Bolivia's Madidi National Park to form the largest multinational protected tropical area on Earth.

The Ese-Eja indigenous communities named the rivers that define the park: Bahuaja for Tambopata and Sonene for Heath.

Visitors can only access this remote wilderness through rivers, as the park maintains its natural state without developed road infrastructure.

The park houses 93 fish species in six water bodies, plus rare mammals including marsh deer, maned wolves, giant otters, and jaguars.
