Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Merced, Catholic basilica in historic Lima, Peru.
The basilica features a Churrigueresque Baroque facade with a central statue of the Virgin of Mercy and ornate Solomonic columns from Panama.
Founded by Friar Miguel de Orenes in 1535, the church underwent multiple reconstructions after earthquakes in 1687 and 1746, with major renovations in 1860.
The Virgin of Mercy, venerated in the basilica, received the title of Patroness of the Fields of Lima in 1730 and Patroness of Arms of Peru in 1823.
The religious complex stands at the intersection of Jiron de la Union and Jiron Antonio Miro Quesada streets in central Lima, containing three distinct cloisters.
The basilica houses the historical Cross of the Conquest brought by Mercedarian missionaries, now preserved in the sacristy alongside colonial-era religious artifacts.
