Isog, Archaeological site in Huanuco, Peru.

Isog is an archaeological site in Peru's highlands near Huánuco, situated on the northern slopes of Susupillo mountain. The location contains structures and artifacts from pre-Columbian societies that once occupied this region in the Andes.

Various Andean groups made use of this area over a long span of time, leaving behind the structures visible today. Research continues to clarify which cultures specifically occupied the site and during which periods.

This site was once home to communities living in the highlands, where they built their settlements and carried out daily tasks within the mountain landscape. The remains show how people adapted their lives to this high-altitude environment over many generations.

The site sits at elevation on sloped mountain terrain, so visitors should be prepared for high altitude and uneven ground. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are important because mountain conditions can change quickly.

The mountain Susupillo itself may have held spiritual or practical importance for ancient inhabitants, as peaks held special meaning in many Andean cultures. This mountain context offers insight into how past communities viewed their sacred and everyday landscape.
