Tambopata Butterfly Farm, Butterfly farm in Puerto Maldonado, Peru

Tambopata Butterfly Farm is a butterfly breeding and observation facility in Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, Peru, about 100 metres from Puerto Maldonado International Airport. It was created in 2000 and has a laboratory and breeding cages. Its 600 m² grounds hold native, medicinal and ornamental plants and butterflies such as Morpho menelaus, Hamadryas laodamia, Colobura dirce, Heliconius sara and Catonephele acontius, and visitors can see the egg and larva stages.

The Mariposario Tambopata opened in 2000 in Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, and was one of the first butterfly farms of its kind in Peru. It has a laboratory and breeding cages, and receives about 17,000 visitors a year. It lies 100 metres from Puerto Maldonado's international airport and 6.5 km from the Plaza de Armas.
