Pataz Province

Pataz Province spans over 4,226 square kilometers across northern Peru, containing thirteen districts with Tayabamba serving as its capital at 3,245 meters elevation.

The territory divided into three Corregimientos during colonial times: Collay in the south, Pataz in the middle, and Cajamarquina in the north.

The residents of Tayabamba maintain traditions through mining practices in Pahuarchuco mountain and agricultural activities passed down through generations.

The province features a population density of 16 inhabitants per square kilometer, with Orleer Medina Barrios leading the administration as mayor.

A historical dam construction by native inhabitants created the Gochapita lagoon, which remains central to irrigation systems in Tayabamba.
