Quequén, Port town in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina

Located on the Atlantic coast, Quequén stretches along the Quequén Grande River and operates as a major grain export center in Argentina.

The foundation of Quequén was approved by the legislature on May 10, 1890, following Dr. Alfredo Meabe's petition to construct a port at the river mouth.

The name Quequén derives from the Puelche language term 'kem ken', referring to the high banks and deep ravines of the region.

The port facilities accommodate large cargo vessels, making it a central point for grain storage, oil production, and commercial fishing operations.

In 2004, residents demonstrated strong local identity when 93.9 percent voted in favor of creating an autonomous district separate from Necochea.
