Quequén

Quequén is a port town on the Atlantic coast, stretching along the Quequén Grande River. The settlement functions as a major hub for grain exports, oil production, and commercial fishing.

The legislature approved Quequén's founding in 1890 following Dr. Alfredo Meabe's proposal to build a port at the river mouth. This decision launched its development as an economic export center.

The name Quequén comes from the Puelche language meaning high riverbanks. This indigenous connection shapes how locals understand their place's identity.

The port accommodates large cargo ships and has grain storage facilities. Visit outside peak loading times to explore the area more comfortably without heavy industrial activity.

Residents voted overwhelmingly in 2004 to form their own autonomous district. This decision reflected the community's strong desire for self-governance separate from neighboring areas.
