Reduccion Jesuitica Our Lady Del Pilar

The Reduccion Jesuitica Our Lady Del Pilar is a colonial museum at Laguna de los Padres in Argentina featuring religious artifacts and historical objects within restored structures. The site includes replicas of the original chapel and three period houses that visitors can explore.

The settlement was founded in 1746 by Jesuit missionaries who built a structured community with around 300 indigenous people focused on religious education. The community later gained an important administrative role in the colonial system.

The displays feature original religious figurines, silver objects, and farming implements that show how European and indigenous practices mixed during colonial times. You can observe how both worlds came together in everyday items and religious objects throughout the museum.

The museum is located on Provincial Route 226 and is easy to reach, with the restored structures arranged in an accessible way for visitors. You should wear comfortable shoes since you will walk between the different houses and the chapel.

The settlement was granted town status in 1751 with its own council, a rare recognition of autonomy for the indigenous population during colonial times. This administrative distinction shows how differently the Jesuits organized their missions compared to other colonial influences.
