Bridge House, Museum of modern architecture in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
Bridge House is a concrete residence above a creek in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The construction supports a rectangular living area on two curved supports that span across the water.
Amancio Williams built the house between 1943 and 1945 as a residence for his father, the composer Alberto Williams. Completion came at a time when modern construction methods were still rare in Argentina.
The architect arranged living and working rooms on the suspended level while the arches below let the creek flow openly beneath the building. Visitors see how wood paneling and large window surfaces fill the interior with warmth and daylight.
The tour leads through rooms on the upper level where visitors can see the wood paneling and wide windows. Access is via symmetrical stairs that rise from both banks toward the entrance door.
The two supporting arches are not cast from poured concrete but assembled from individual prefabricated elements. This building method allowed faster assembly and let the creek flow during construction.
