Demetrio Elíades Building

The Demetrio Elíades Building is a residential tower in Mar del Plata that reaches 125 meters in height and dominates the city's skyline. It holds numerous apartments with sea views, positioned along Peralta Ramos Avenue in the downtown district.

Greek entrepreneur Demetrio Elíades initiated construction of this skyscraper in 1966, with architect Antonio Dompé overseeing the project. The construction was technically notable at the time, with each floor taking roughly ten days to complete.

The building displays the Havanna brand sign at its top, linking it to a legendary local company that has produced traditional Argentine alfajores for generations. This connection makes the structure a visual symbol of one of the city's most recognized brands.

The tower is located in downtown Mar del Plata on a main avenue with good connections to other parts of the city. Visitors should know that this is a private residential complex, so access to interior spaces is limited.

During the 2015 Chilean earthquake, the building swayed noticeably and prompted residents to evacuate in their pajamas. This event revealed how the tower's modern construction could flex in response to seismic waves.
