Palacio Cosmos

Palacio Cosmos is a 38-story residential tower with a distinctive L-shaped form located on Avenida Colon between Sarmiento and Alsina streets. The building contains two underground levels for machinery rooms, a ground floor with retail spaces, and two mezzanine levels designated for resident parking.

The tower was completed in 1964 by architect Juan Antonio Dompé and marked the turning point when the city shifted from a destination for the wealthy to a popular vacation spot. Its construction coincided with the period when Mar del Plata began attracting thousands of visitors and fundamentally changed its character.

The building represents the shift of the 1960s when vacation housing replaced private mansions in the city's center. This architectural change shows how Mar del Plata transformed from an exclusive destination to a place for middle-class families.

The ground floor with its retail spaces is easy to navigate and provides clear orientation points for visitors using the site near Avenida Colon. The central location on a main street makes it straightforward to reach the building and explore the surrounding neighborhoods.

The tower was long known for its large advertising signs displaying logos of brands like Pepsi and Philips. Because of this advertising, locals referred to the building for years as Edificio Pepsi or Edificio Phillips.
