El Cilindro, Football stadium in Avellaneda, Argentina.
El Cilindro is a football stadium in Avellaneda Partido, in the province of Buenos Aires. The concrete stands wrap around the pitch and offer seating for roughly 45,000 spectators beneath a translucent roof.
The stadium opened on September 3, 1950, after the government approved a loan of 3 million pesos to fund its construction. In 1997, the facility received full roof coverage over all seating areas, becoming the first such venue in Argentina.
The ground takes its name from Juan Perón and was renamed in the mid-twentieth century to honor his political legacy. Racing Club supporters celebrate victories here and maintain traditions passed down through generations.
The facility lies in the southern part of Greater Buenos Aires and can be reached by bus or train. On match days, spectators arrive from across the metropolitan area, so coming early is advisable.
The cylindrical shape of the architecture earned the ground its nickname. This rounded design sets it apart from most other sporting facilities in South America.
