Atchugarry Museum of Contemporary Art

The Atchugarry Museum is a contemporary art museum in Manantiales featuring five exhibition halls displaying about 500 works by international artists. The structure was designed by architect Carlos Ott and integrates flexible exhibition spaces along with an outdoor sculpture park.

The museum was founded in 2022 by sculptor Pablo Atchugarry as an expansion of his foundation in the region. Its opening marked a significant moment for the contemporary art scene in Uruguay.

The collection displays works by artists such as Wifredo Lam and Joaquín Torres-García, reflecting different artistic movements of the modern era. These works give visitors insight into the artistic diversity that has shaped Latin America and beyond.

The museum sits on a large property with straightforward access and is located near the Atlantic coast, making it easy to visit. It makes sense to allow time for the outdoor sculpture areas, as these require additional exploration.

The building features a wave-like architectural form constructed with a timber frame made from Red Grandis eucalyptus. This structural detail creates unobstructed gallery spaces that give the artistic experience a flowing quality.
