Parque Vucetich, Public park in La Plata, Argentina.
Parque Vucetich is a 16-hectare public park in La Plata located at the intersection of Avenues 25, 51, and 53. It contains sports fields, a shell track, children's play areas, tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, and a bocce club, along with open green spaces.
The park was founded as Plaza de Armas in 1882 and renamed in 1926 to honor Juan Vucetich, who developed modern fingerprint identification. This change reflected the local community's recognition of a major scientific advancement.
The park serves as a community gathering space where neighbors come together to exercise and socialize. The sports facilities and bocce club create natural meeting points for people throughout the year.
The park is freely accessible with easily walkable areas for different activities. Visitors will find the best conditions for exercise during early morning or late afternoon hours when there are fewer people.
The park housed a 200,000-liter water tank of German manufacture until 1975, which was an impressive technical achievement for its time. The original water treatment plant remains in operation today, showing how some infrastructure has endured for generations.
