Villa Cabello, Residential district in Posadas, Argentina
Villa Cabello is a residential district in Posadas that extends westward from Jauretche Avenue to Martires Stream and northward from Almirante Brown Avenue to the Parana River. The area has banks, shopping centers, a regional hospital, a police station, a fire department, and several educational facilities.
The neighborhood began in 1973 with a project in Chacra 150 led by Priest Juan Markievicz and Sister Franziska Hohenwieser. The ambitious goal was to provide homes and basic services for a growing population.
The name Villa Cabello comes from German women who donated their hair to fund homes for local families. This unusual initiative shows how creatively the community mobilized resources.
The district is well served by public facilities and businesses, making daily life convenient for residents. Visitors will find restaurants, shops, and accommodations nearby, close to other central areas of the city.
Hair collected in Misiones was exported to European wig factories and directly funded the residential areas. This craft-based financing method connected two continents in an unexpected way.
