Cordillera Province

Cordillera Province spans 86,245 square kilometers in southern Santa Cruz Department, featuring dry weather patterns and varied elevations across its territory.

The province, established in 1826 under Marshal Antonio José de Sucre's presidency, originally carried the name La Cordillera de los Chiriguanosa after local Guarani inhabitants.

The population maintains traditional festivals that incorporate both indigenous and mestizo elements through community gatherings, local music performances, and regional food preparation.

Seven municipalities within the province connect through a network of roads, with the capital city Lagunillas serving as the central administrative point.

The territory includes sections of Kaa-Iya del Gran Chaco National Park and Otuquis National Park, which protect native species across extensive natural areas.
