Santuario Mariano de la Torre

Santuario Mariano de la Torre is a shrine built near Chochís village with wooden pillars and doors that feature detailed carved designs throughout. These wooden elements give the structure its distinctive appearance and craftsmanship.

The shrine was built in 1988 under architect Hans Roth's supervision. It was created to honor sixteen people who died in the El Portón flood of 1979.

The interior wooden pillars display carvings of parrots, toucans, anteaters, and fish, reflecting the animals that inhabit the region around this place of worship.

Reaching this shrine from Chochís involves an uphill walk that takes about three hours, so bring water and sun protection for the journey. Wear sturdy shoes and go at a steady pace to manage the climb comfortably.

A cave located about 100 meters from the main chapel holds an image of the Virgin of Assumption inside it. This separate site adds another layer of spiritual importance to the mountain location.
