Nueva Germania

Nueva Germania is a district in San Pedro Department that sits on fertile land and features a mix of agricultural fields and residential areas. The region is connected by country roads and lies in a tropical climate zone where yerba mate, sugarcane, and cotton are cultivated.

The district was founded in 1887 by Bernhard Förster and Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, who established a German settlement based on their social ideals. The project aimed to realize an alternative community model but soon lost momentum and eventually became a regular agricultural region.

The people here speak a blend of German and Guaraní, reflecting the connection between European and Paraguayan traditions. This linguistic mix shapes daily life and shows how two cultures have grown together across generations.

Visitors should be prepared for variable weather, as temperatures can shift significantly between cooler and warmer seasons. The best time to explore is during the drier months, when roads and paths are more accessible.

The place has an unexpected connection to Friedrich Nietzsche through his sister Elisabeth, who co-founded the settlement and left the project in 1893. This philosophical link remains little known today, even though it represents a fascinating chapter in the region's history.
