Mbatovi ecoreserve, Protected area in Paraguarí Department, Paraguay.
Mbatovi Ecoreserve is a protected area spanning the Cordillera de los Altos mountain range, featuring forests, streams, dams, and over one hundred native plant species. The landscape displays typical features of a mountain ecosystem with natural water flows and dense vegetation.
The reserve was established in 2003 as Paraguay's first environmental conservation project, after landowners Jacinto Santa María and Marta González Ayala purchased the property in 1999. This founding marked an important step for nature protection in the country.
The reserve functions as a place where visitors participate in nature education and environmental learning programs that highlight local plant and animal diversity. These activities give people a direct understanding of how ecosystems work and why they matter.
The reserve is located at kilometer 72 of the Paraguari-Piribebuy road and offers several hiking trails through its different natural environments. Visitors can join guided tours that lead through the grounds and show the various habitats.
The property harbors rare native animal species like agoutis, armadillos, and various reptiles that make their home in this mountain region. These animals are hard to spot, but attentive visitors can discover signs of their presence throughout the grounds.
