Praia da Guarita, Public beach in Torres, Brazil

Praia da Guarita is a public beach on the Brazilian coast with a long sandy shoreline bordered by distinctive volcanic rock formations at each end. The water is divided into separate swimming areas by large natural stone structures that create sheltered bays.

The beach lies between volcanic plugs, the towers that gave Torres its name: the Morro das Furnas to the north and the Morro da Guarita to the south, with an isolated pinnacle in the centre. The surrounding area is protected as the Parque da Guarita.

The name Guarita comes from the morro that closes the beach to the south; the city's name, Torres, refers to the volcanic plugs that frame the sand. The beach lies inside the Parque da Guarita environmental protection area, between the Morro das Furnas to the north and the Morro da Guarita to the south, with an isolated pinnacle in the centre.

Access is via the BR-101 or the RS-389 (Estrada do Mar); from the centre of Torres, Porto Alegre is 197 km away and Florianópolis 280 km. The beach lies within the Parque da Guarita environmental protection area, between the Morro das Furnas to the north and the Morro da Guarita to the south.

The volcanic rocks here are remnants of ancient geological activity that created a landscape different from most other Brazilian beaches. Visitors can walk among these formations and see how natural forces carved out the sheltered bays and rocky shores.
