Malacara Canyon, Natural canyon in Praia Grande, Brazil
The Malacara Canyon extends 3.5 kilometers in length, reaches 780 meters in depth, and features vertical rock walls surrounding the Malacara River.
The canyon received its name from Malacara horses, a breed characterized by distinctive white stripes that historically roamed the surrounding region.
The formation belongs to the Caminhos dos Cânions do Sul UNESCO Global Geopark, representing geological heritage for scientific research and education.
Visitors must arrange tours with certified guides through the ICMBio organization, as the 4-kilometer round trip requires multiple river crossings.
The canyon contains mineral geodes within its volcanic rocks, while natural pools form along the river course through the Fig Tree Well section.
