Santa Marta Lighthouse

The Santa Marta Lighthouse stands at Brazil's southern tip with a white cylindrical tower marked by black horizontal bands. The structure rises to about 29 meters and houses a museum with exhibits related to maritime history.

The lighthouse was built in 1891 as Brazil expanded and modernized its sea routes. Since then, it has guided ships safely through the challenging waters off the Santa Catarina coast.

The lighthouse complex displays ship models and old navigation charts that show how people once traveled by sea. These objects tell the story of the place's long connection to the ocean.

Access to the lighthouse is available most days, with guided tours offered in Portuguese and English. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes since the stairs to the top are steep.

The lighthouse stands at a special geographic point where tropical and temperate ocean currents meet. This boundary line creates two different ecosystems that can be observed when looking carefully at the water.
