Santa Marta Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Laguna, Brazil
The Santa Marta Lighthouse stands at the southern tip of Brazil with a white cylindrical tower marked by black horizontal bands reaching 29 meters in height.
Built in 1891 during Brazil's maritime expansion period, this lighthouse remains operational and guides vessels through the challenging waters of the Santa Catarina coast.
The lighthouse compound includes a museum displaying maritime artifacts, navigation instruments, and documents that illustrate the evolution of Brazilian coastal illumination methods.
Visitors can access the lighthouse daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with guided tours available in Portuguese and English through the museum and tower.
The lighthouse marks the division point between tropical and temperate waters along the Brazilian coast, creating distinct marine ecosystems on each side.
