Museu Casa de Anita

Museu Casa de Anita occupies a yellow Portuguese-Brazilian colonial house built in 1711, featuring traditional architectural details from this period in southern Brazil. The rooms display historical artifacts, documents, and multimedia presentations about the life of the person connected to this residence.

The building originally served as a dressmaking workshop where its most famous resident prepared for her first marriage to Manuel Duarte in 1835. It was later converted into a museum to preserve the story of her life and her connection to this town.

The house displays personal belongings and family portraits of Anita Garibaldi alongside comic books that showcase local traditions of the Santa Catarina region. These items tell the story of her life and connection to this coastal town.

The museum is located in Laguna's old town and is easily accessible on foot from the waterfront. The rooms are compact, making it possible to see everything in about an hour without much physical effort.

The museum preserves soil from Anita's grave in Italy inside a special urn, creating a direct connection between this southern Brazilian location and her burial place in Europe. Additionally, the museum displays a replica of the Seival ship, which played a role during the local conflicts.
