Zoológico Municipal de Guarulhos, Municipal zoo in Guarulhos, Brazil.
Zoológico Municipal de Guarulhos is a municipal facility in Guarulhos, São Paulo state, with enclosures for mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. The grounds cover several hectares and include paths that lead to different animal habitats and viewing points.
The municipal government of Guarulhos established the facility in 1981 to create a center for environmental education in the region. Over the following decades, the grounds were expanded, new enclosures built, and the educational program developed further.
This park serves as a meeting point for families and school groups who come to observe native and exotic animals in outdoor enclosures. Many visitors use weekends to walk between the habitats and watch feeding demonstrations.
The entrance is located in a park with parking lots and snack stands nearby, and paths are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Weekends draw larger crowds, so arriving in the morning on a weekday makes for a quieter walk through the site.
The grounds work with regional organizations to take in and treat injured or orphaned Brazilian wildlife. Some of these rescued animals remain permanently at the park after they can no longer return to the wild.
