Companhia Taubaté Industrial, Historical textile factory in Taubaté, Brazil.
Companhia Taubaté Industrial is a textile factory with a striking 12-story tower featuring four clocks, located in the city center. The complex connects different factory sections through underground tunnels and displays art deco architectural details throughout.
The factory was founded in 1891 by Felix Guisard and started with 170 workers, eventually becoming one of Latin America's largest textile manufacturers. This growth made the site a symbol of industrial expansion in the Paraíba Valley during the early 20th century.
The building earned heritage protection status in 2017 and represents the industrial growth that transformed the Paraíba Valley region of São Paulo. Today public institutions occupy the spaces, connecting visitors to an era when the city depended on textile production.
The Felix Guisard Building now houses city government offices and the university's architecture department. Visitors can view the exterior facade and distinctive tower, though some interior areas are reserved for institutional use.
The factory grounds connect its different buildings through an underground tunnel system, an unusual feature that reveals how early industrial operations were organized. These hidden connections show how production was moved between sections without interruption or exposure to weather.
