The Colégio do Caraça encompasses multiple buildings with Portuguese architectural elements, including a Gothic-style church and two-story lateral wings.
Founded in 1774 by Brother Lourenço of Nossa Senhora, the institution began its educational mission in 1820 when Lazarist missionaries arrived from Portugal.
The complex maintains collections of religious artifacts, furniture, and ecclesiastical items that represent the educational and spiritual heritage of colonial Brazil.
Visitors can access guided tours of the buildings, gardens, and chapel, with the site located approximately 120 kilometers from Belo Horizonte.
A devastating fire in 1868 destroyed the newly constructed educational building and resulted in the loss of numerous historical books and documents.
