Museu de Valores do Banco Central do Brasil, Currency museum at Banco Central headquarters in Brasília, Brazil.
The museum displays a collection of 135,000 pieces including Brazilian and international banknotes, coins, gold bars, medals, and financial artifacts.
Founded in 1966 and inaugurated in 1972, the museum moved to its current location in the Central Bank headquarters building in September 1981.
The museum holds 554 artworks, including paintings and sculptures from Brazilian modernist artists such as Di Cavalcanti, Tarsila do Amaral, and Portinari.
Located in the first basement of the Central Bank building in the Banking Sector South, the museum offers free admission and guided tours Tuesday through Friday.
The art collection was primarily assembled through the acquisition of works from failed financial institutions, representing 90% of the museum's artistic holdings.
