Cantão State Park

Cantão State Park is a protected area in Tocantins where tropical rainforest and Cerrado savanna meet, with numerous lakes dotting the landscape. The site spreads across a large area and offers a network of trails plus a visitor center for exploration.

The park was established in 1998 to protect the region's wetlands and preserve its ecological diversity. Its creation responded to the need to safeguard these valuable ecosystems from alteration.

Instituto Araguaia leads research projects and conservation initiatives while working with local communities to protect the abundant wildlife within the park boundaries.

The site is accessible through local guides who offer tours of the grounds and help visitors find the best routes. It is wise to prepare for changing conditions, as the landscape varies greatly depending on the season.

During rainy seasons, floodwaters submerge the forest and create an entirely different world filled with abundant bird and fish life. This annual cycle transforms the land into a temporary aquatic realm that sustains countless animal species.
