Ruínas da Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos

The Ruínas da Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos are remains of an 18th-century colonial church featuring stone walls and side chapel extensions. The standing structure displays Portuguese colonial architectural elements, including high walls and preserved details of the main building.

Construction of the church started in the 18th century, initiated by free Black community members. Though the project remained incomplete, religious services and celebrations took place in the partially finished building.

The ruins reflect how Black communities built and maintained their own houses of worship during Brazil's colonial period. Religious gatherings and celebrations held here show how faith was practiced and celebrated by free and enslaved people alike.
