Garcia d'Ávila Tower House

The stone structure encompasses three floors with arcades, symmetrical facades, and long galleries constructed in Portuguese Renaissance architectural design.

Garcia d'Avila started building this fortified residence in 1551 when he arrived with Portuguese governor Tome de Sousa to establish colonial settlements.

The fortress served as a military stronghold and administrative center, controlling vast territories across northeastern Brazil during the colonial period.

The ruins stand on elevated ground near the Atlantic coast, offering visitors access through guided tours from the Praia do Forte tourist area.

This structure represents the only medieval-style castle built in the Americas, featuring a hexagonal tower and military architectural elements from 16th-century Portugal.
