Serra da Barriga

Serra da Barriga is a mountain chain in Alagoas that rises between 150 and 560 meters, forming part of the southern Borborema Plateau. The region features a tropical climate with high humidity and is marked by archaeological sites and historical walking trails.

The mountain was the site of the Quilombo settlement of Cerca do Macaco until Portuguese forces conducted a decisive military campaign in 1694. This moment marked a turning point in the history of resistance to slavery in Brazil.
