Redinha beach, Beach and neighborhood in Natal, Brazil
Redinha is a beach neighborhood in northern Natal, where the Potengi River meets the Atlantic Ocean. The beach runs along a wide strip of sand with shallow, calm water protected by coral reefs just offshore.
The neighborhood grew from a fishing settlement at the meeting point of the Potengi River and the ocean, where fishing and small-scale trade shaped early community life. Over time, it became a destination for visitors coming from central Natal, drawn by its beach and local food.
Street vendors and small restaurants serve ginga com tapioca, a regional fish and cassava dish that defines the local food culture of Rio Grande do Norte. This simple meal reflects how fishing families have maintained their heritage through daily eating habits.
You can get there by vehicle across the bridge or by taking the ferry from the opposite bank, which runs on a set timetable. Arriving in the morning gives you more time on the beach before the vendors and crowds arrive later in the day.
The coral reefs just below the surface keep the water shallow and calm along most of the shoreline, which is something many visitors notice only after they are already in the water. The reefs also trap warmth, so the sea temperature here tends to be a few degrees higher than along open beaches nearby.
