Dorob National Park, National park in Erongo Region, Namibia
Dorob National Park stretches along the central Namibian coast between the Kuiseb Delta and the Ugab River. The protected area features sand dunes, rocky coves, and open beaches that meet the Atlantic Ocean.
The protected area was officially established in 2010, evolving from the former Walvis Bay Nature Reserve. This transformation marked a new step in protecting the valuable coastal habitat.
The northern section contains the Messum Crater, where visitors can examine San rock paintings and archaeological remnants from Damara nomadic settlements.
The park is best visited during warmer months between October and March when weather conditions are more favorable. Visitors should bring plenty of water and protective gear, as the area is exposed and remote.
The area hosts one of the world's largest desert lichen fields, a system of millions of tiny organisms growing on rock and soil. These lichen fields play an important role in the ecosystem and are an unexpected natural wonder for visitors.
