Golden Acre

Golden Acre is a modern skyscraper with 28 floors and a height of 110 meters that shapes Cape Town's downtown skyline. The building combines office space, retail stores, and direct train station access within a large complex featuring extensive glass surfaces.

The site originally held a water reservoir from 1663 called Wagener's Tank, which supplied ships and early settlers with fresh water. The current building rose after construction unearthed remains of colonial-era canal systems beneath the ground.

The building houses a shopping center connected directly to Cape Town Station, serving as a meeting point for locals and visitors moving through the city. This location sits at the heart of downtown, where the pace of daily commerce shapes how people navigate the area.

The building is well connected to public transport, as it links directly to the train station with several bus lines nearby. Visitors should expect crowded conditions during peak hours, particularly in the afternoon and early evening.

Excavations during construction uncovered remains of a colonial-era canal system that once moved water from the Fresh River to the waterfront. This discovery reveals how early inhabitants engineered water transport to serve the growing port.
