Iziko Museums, Museum network in City of Cape Town, South Africa
The Iziko Museums comprise several institutions including the South African Museum, South African National Gallery, and Slave Lodge in Cape Town's center.
Founded in 1825, the South African Museum became the first museum in South Africa and relocated to the Company's Garden in 1897.
The museum collection contains over 1.5 million specimens, from 700-million-year-old fossils to stone tools dating back 120,000 years.
The exhibitions spread across four levels, with specialized sections for marine life, African cultures, and rock art, plus an advanced planetarium.
The museum displays a complete blue whale skeleton and preserves a rare specimen of an extinct quagga foal.
