Moses Mabhida Stadium, Association football stadium in Durban, South Africa.
Moses Mabhida Stadium is an association football arena in Stamford Hill, Durban, South Africa, with an arch that rises 105 meters above the circular structure. The PTFE membrane that forms the roof casts soft light onto the stands and keeps the temperature comfortable inside.
The arena was designed following a 2006 competition won by Gerkan Marg and Partners and opened in November 2009. It served as a venue for several matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The stadium represents a multifunctional sports center that integrates into the city landscape through broad steps and connects to a 1.5-kilometer linear park.
The venue holds 56,000 spectators and 130 hospitality boxes that are reached by wide steps. The park along the eastern side extends 1.5 kilometers (about 1 mile) and connects different access routes to the grounds.
A cable car runs along the arch to a viewing platform at the top. From there you can see the city, the harbor, and the open water beyond the coast.
