Mutarazi Falls, Double-tiered waterfall in Manicaland, Zimbabwe
Mutarazi Falls is a two-tiered waterfall that drops 479 meters, making it the highest in Zimbabwe. The water plunges through two distinct stages as it descends the eastern edge of the highlands.
The falls were shaped over millions of years by the Mutarazi River carving through the eastern highlands. This river continues to define the landscape and maintain the waterfall's form today.
The valley below is shaped by tea estates that have defined local livelihoods for generations. These plantations are woven into the landscape, showing how farming and nature coexist in this region.
Access is through a walking path from the parking area to a viewing point overlooking the valley. Water flow is strongest during and just after the rainy season, making these months best for viewing the falls.
The waterfall's character changes dramatically with the seasons, flowing gently in dry months and surging powerfully after heavy rains. This means each visit offers a different experience depending on when you arrive.
