The National Gallery of Zimbabwe contains nearly 6000 artworks displayed across three locations in Harare, Mutare, and Bulawayo.

The institution, initially named National Gallery of Rhodesia, opened its doors on July 16, 1957, under the direction of Frank McEwen.

The gallery maintains a collection of traditional and modern works from Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, with dedicated spaces for emerging artists.

The main building at 20 Julius Nyerere Way in Harare welcomes 1030 visitors monthly through exhibitions, educational programs, and workshops.

Queen Elizabeth II attended the sixth Zimbabwe Heritage Exhibition at the gallery in October 1991, marking a notable moment in its history.
