National Botanic Garden, Botanical garden in Alexandra Park, Harare, Zimbabwe
The National Botanic Garden stretches across 62 hectares, containing 900 species of indigenous Zimbabwean trees and shrubs within different ecological zones.
Founded in 1902 as a recreational space, the garden transformed into the National Botanic Gardens in 1962 under Professor Hiram Wild's leadership.
The National Herbarium preserves 500,000 dried plant specimens, documenting Zimbabwe's botanical heritage and supporting research on African flora.
Located 4 kilometers north of Harare center, the garden features specialized sections including a Desert House and an artificial lake for aquatic plants.
The garden maintains 90 percent of Zimbabwe's ecological environments, representing most of the 750 plant species native to the country.
