Mvouni

Mvouni is a village on the western coast of Grande Comore island, about 7 kilometers from the capital. The settlement spreads near the volcanic slopes of Mount Karthala with houses scattered toward the seafront.

The village began as a small fishing community and later transformed into a residential area. These ties with neighboring settlements through traditional trade shaped how the community has grown over time.

Residents blend African traditions with Islamic practices, evident in daily prayer calls and community gatherings throughout the village. This mix shapes how people live together and structures the rhythm of daily life.

Visitors can reach the village via the RN2 road from Moroni using shared taxis and minibuses that run during daylight hours. Arriving early in the day allows you to experience the quieter morning hours and gives you time to move around the village at a relaxed pace.

The village offers direct views of sunsets over the Mozambique Channel, while Mount Karthala's silhouette frames the eastern horizon. This view is especially striking from the waterfront, where evening light transforms the scene.
