Sahamalaza National Park, Protected coastal area in northwestern Madagascar.

Sahamalaza National Park is a protected coastal area in northwestern Madagascar covering around 26,000 hectares. The terrain includes mangrove forests, coastal zones, and various habitats between the towns of Ambanja and Analalava.

The park was established in 2007 and later recognized as a Ramsar Wetland site. This recognition in 2017 highlighted the area's international importance for wetland and wildlife protection.

Local communities use specific areas of the park for traditional activities and actively participate in conservation work. You can observe how people and nature coexist here in a balanced way.

To explore the park, you need a permit and must hire a local guide, which should be arranged with park administration beforehand. The best time to visit is during the drier months when trails are easier to navigate.

The park is home to lemur species found nowhere else on Earth, including the blue-eyed black lemur and the Sahamalaza sportive lemur. These special animals make it a critical place for global biodiversity.
