Réserve naturelle nationale de l'archipel des Glorieuses

The reserve encompasses over 43,000 square kilometers of territorial waters and 4.3 square kilometers of land in the western Indian Ocean between Seychelles and Madagascar.

The French government established the national nature reserve on June 8, 2021, replacing the previous Glorioso Islands Marine Natural Park created in 2012.

The protected territory includes three main zones: Glorioso Island, Banc du Geyser, and Banc de la Cordelière, each maintaining strict regulations against extractive activities.

The reserve contains 450 square kilometers of coral reefs supporting 2,500 marine species, making it a significant location for scientific research and conservation.

The waters serve as critical breeding grounds for green turtles, hawksbill turtles, and seasonal migration routes for humpback whales.
