Kimboza Forest, Limestone forest reserve near Uluguru Mountains, Tanzania

Kimboza Forest stretches along the Ruvu River, featuring massive rock formations, permanent streams, and diverse vegetation across its rolling hills.

The forest gained protection status in 1964 when Tanzania designated it as a national forest reserve under IUCN Category IV management guidelines.

Local inhabitants collect medicinal plants and maintain traditional practices while participating in forest management programs with the Tanzanian Forest Agency.

Visitors can access the forest through a main road connecting Morogoro to Selous Wildlife Reserve, with basic camping facilities available.

The forest harbors 226 vertebrate species and provides one of only two habitats worldwide for the critically endangered turquoise gecko.
